Portfolio Management Assistant Director Josh talks about his role.
Tell us what attracted you to join the NWF?
Headquartered in Leeds, the NWF not only provided a unique opportunity geographically, but it also offered an opportunity to solve financial problems whilst driving economic growth across the UK as we strive to achieve Net Zero.
What does your role involve?
Portfolio Management (PM) are responsible for the NWF investments post financial close. This includes client relationship management, ongoing investment monitoring and value accretion for our existing portfolio. In addition, PM are heavily involved in the origination process and work with teams across the Fund to ensure delivery on policy and impact requirements as well as more traditional economic KPIs.
What is the NWF like to work for?
The NWF is a hybrid of the public and private sector, providing a rich culture of cross team collaboration and a shared responsibility to solve financial problems. Given the NWF’s multiple product offerings across nascent technologies, each day provides an opportunity to learn and develop.
What were you doing before you joined the Fund, and how has your experience helped with the role you are now doing?
Prior to joining the NWF, I worked within the Infrastructure Equity team at Aviva Investors covering both investment transactions and post-acquisition management. The main fund invested in key renewable energy sectors such as rooftop and ground mounted solar as well as onshore wind before broadening its investments into sectors such as EFW and Fibre Broadband.
What are your highlights since joining the NWF?
The breadth of sectors covered! I have been fortunate to represent PM in several sectors across both debt and equity, including Hydrogen, Critical Minerals, Natural Capital, and Battery Storage.
What are you looking forward to next at the NWF?
In addition to understanding the direct role the NWF will play in the UK's 2025 Industrial Strategy, I am excited to continue to work closely with investee companies as they grow and drive us towards our Net Zero ambitions.
What would you say to anyone thinking of applying for a role here?
